Some grateful words from just a few of Dr. Lauersen's
thousands of patients ...
Dear Dr. Lauersen,
I have had your book, Childbirth With Love, in my library since I was 22 years old. I am now 39. I bought your book because I was engaged to be married, and I always knew I wanted to be a mother. As it turned out, I changed my mind about the engagement, but I kept the book! Your words stayed with me throughout my young adulthood. In particular, your cautionary words about lifelong health and how this relates to healthy pregnancies and good birth outcomes.
Your book truly guided me away from some very poor choices, because I did want to someday conceive a child with love and good health. I avoided STD's, obesity, drugs, smoking, alcohol etc. At age thirty, my husband and I were thrilled and shocked to find out we were expecting our first child. I knew from a very early age, indeed, I had come to expect, that I would have a normal, natural, gentle birth. This is all thanks to your book. I had a beautiful, healthy, 8 pound 14 ounce son in a California birthing center with a midwife in attendance.
I still meet people today who don't believe that I did that "drug-free." Then I tell them about my daughter born two years later, 7 pounds, 12 ounces in the same place with the same mid-wife and again, no drugs.
The real clincher for the non-believers is the twins. Two years ago I had fraternal twin girls in a hospital in Boston with a rebel doctor who trained with mid-wives. I delivered full-term girls seven minutes apart (6 pounds 13 ounces and 6 pounds). The second one was an "undeliverable breech", an unusual footling presentation. Being the second twin, the doctor was able to reach in, just as your book describes ! This all occurred in a drug-free, joy-filled, gentle setting.
All of the children are healthy and happy. I nursed them all for two years (also discussed in your book). Although we have never met, and I am not a direct patient of yours, please consider me and my four children as part of your "flock". I use that word specifically because clearly the love and conviction with which you write shows that this work is a calling or a ministry for you. You have had a great impact on me, my children and God willing, their children too! I dusted off your book tonight to give it to my sister who is 35 and expecting her first child.
May God Bless You Always for all the good you do!
Very Truly Yours,
Christine Ashmore, MSW, LICSW
DR. LAUERSEN is probably the one person who is responsible for all the happiness we have had in our life [me and my wife carol]. after trying everything to have a baby and seeing many doctors we luckily found Dr. Lauersen who was there for us any hour of the day or night probably one of the most unselfish people I have ever met. I remember times when carol would call him at 3 am an he would take the call. I remember thinking doesn't this guy ever sleep ? We now have two beautiful daughters 24 & 20 - one is married and the other runs the family business. Neither would have been here if it not for Dr. Lauersen. I am now 60 yrs old and have met a lot of people in my lifetime none I have more respect for than this man. I cannot say enough about him is by far the best doctor & human being I have ever known.
From a grateful Dad!
Dear DR Lauersen
My son Elijah was born on Jan 9th 1990 & was delivered by you at Lenox Hill Hosp. I will never forget how you accepted me as your patient on late notice from Dr Paul Metzger. Your name came up when I spoke to my son about you, I told him he was delivered by a famous physician who delivered babies for numerous celebrities!
I have a picture of you delivering my baby & will try to get a copy of it to mail to you. May God help you in your journey & I will alwasy do all that I can on your behalf.
